For those like me, who don’t ride off road, there’s a lot of competition. Triumph’s new Tiger 900, KTM’s 790 Adventure and Suzuki’s revamped V-Strom are all very capable, as is BMW’s F850GS. They are all considerably cheaper too. Honda’s pricing sets the Africa Twin against BMW’s ubiquitous R1250GS and that’s a bold move. The Honda and KTM are excellent at off road and are light and nimble with good suspensions for that. You may want to look at the Yamaha tenere or the Honda Africa Twin. Better on road. Better wind protection and meant for long rides. The Honda 450l is an off road monster with plates but the on road ride will wear you out. Road a 790 & 890. Not near as comfortable on the freeway, but way faster off road. For my skill level (ex off road & MX racer), the KTM won't do more off road, but it will do it easier, and much faster. It is more confidence inspiring at those higher speeds off road. Both the 790 and the 890 like to be pushed (more so the 790).
